April 20, 2016.

I was really planning to go to a park, but then took a wrong route, so my photo walk today was somewhere around Quiapo and Sta. Cruz Manila. My gosh, I haven't eaten the whole day when I went out, and I felt dizzy throughout this.

Technical Details:

Most of my shots here were taken with a Nikon D5200 and Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 + Fisheye Adapter (my favorite Ultra Wide Angle combo).

Night shots of the Manila Metropolitan Theater were shot with a Nikkor AF 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5 (1988 Version), while the moon shots were used with a Tasco 1000-3000mm lens.

The full moon was supposed to show on April 22nd, so it's only 99% full today. With this in mind, I really went out to take street photos and the moon images were just incidental so I did not come with a tripod.

Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City. This was shot with a 720nm Infrared Filter. The final image was solarized.

Here are some shots from Quiapo. Featuring the Quiapo Church towering over the Quezon Boulevard that gets its traffic pouring from the other side of the Pasig River. There are also shots of  a bustling alley in Plaza Miranda.

Having taken the wrong route, I got off the jeep and walked around Sta. Cruz looking for action and random surprises. Lots of historic buildings in the area, but we'll save them for another day!

Next is the Sta. Cruz Church. Good thing I brought the fisheye! With our local heritage sites plagued by cables dangling in the sky like pesky weed, a Long Shot is an ugly choice.

After Sta. Cruz, I walked going to Manila City Hall. You could see the Manila Postal Office Building sitting along the bank of the Pasig River while basking in the glorious golden rays of the setting sun. Pasig River is an important Filipino heritage since it is a source of life and also a trade route in the old days. These were shot with a Nikkor AF 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5 (1988 Version).

It was my first time to see this historic building in person, although I always see it as the jeep passes through the bridge. It's currently under restoration and looking forward for the re-opening. Here, a 99% full moon looms over the Manila Metropolitan Theater as I took these shots.

I waited until the moon fit into the empty space where it is in the photo.

Beware when the Moon Goddess gets angry and threatens to throw a huge energy ball down to us mortals! Parurusahan kita, sa ngalan ng buwan!

Earlier, I also took some samples using the 1000-3000mm lens. While blur, flare or coma was never an issue with this lens, contrast should easily be improved in post processing.

The remaining full moon photos below were hand held shots at 1000mm (no crop) and 3000mm (a little crop on the left side) respectively. These were taken from the Manila Metropolitan Theater. With this super telephoto lens (scope), I find that it's easier to shoot photos hand held and use tripod for videos. A review will be available in an upcoming post.
