May 21, 2016: Blogapalooza 'Horizons' in Centris Element

May 21, 2016.

Today is Blogapalooza Day! It's the biggest B2B (aka Business to Blogger) networking event here in the Philippines. Although, I usually attend the event to grow my photography portfolio and reunite with blogger friends (I rarely drop my calling card at all. lol)

For the 'Blogapalooza Horizons' event, I used a Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 (DX = 75mm), and also a Fisheye Adapter for the wide angle shots. If you only need to bring one and only one lens to an event, I highly recommend any 50mm lens which you can use for low light photography, then you can attach an adapter for wide angle shots. It's very practical and saves you alot of money too!

This lens was made in 1967 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017.

All of my photos are #SOOC (Straight Out Of The Camera, Manual Focus, Manual Exposure) to show you how the image quality looks like straight from the camera. Due to the addition of glass elements with the fisheye adapter, image quality is not always at its best, especially on the edges of the frame and images show coma or glow at apertures wider than f/4.

This is normal occurrence when you add glass elements that cause internal reflections. That's why the wider the aperture, more light, and more internal reflections, more coma/glow.

Later, I lingered for some full moon shots with my Nikkor 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5 (1988 Version) at 135mm, and using a Circular Polarizing Filter. Technically, the full moon should be at May 22nd, so it's a 99.9% full moon tonight. Not happy with tonight's shot.

My latest science project is to convert the new arrival of lenses to Nikon mount.

Nikon has a longer flange distance compared to other lenses, that's why adapters need to have glass element in order to focus to infinity -- but at the expense of image quality due to additional glass elements.

The goal is to prove my hypothesis that it's possible to adapt them to Nikon (everyone tells me otherwise) -- by simply adjusting the parts mechanically, avoiding the need to add glass elements into the optical formula.

But why all the effort, why not get a Nikon lens instead? Well, for me, any challenge is what makes a hobby worthwhile. Besides, if we have good eyesight, why not use it well... go Manual!

Super Komura 90-250mm f/4.5 + Nikkormat FTn

Here are the new arrivals, from left to right of the photo below:

Tefnon (Kobori) 75-300mm f/5.6 Macro Zoom (Canon FD Mount) ---> work in progress, waiting for the parts to arrive.

Super Komura 90-250mm f/4.5 (M42 Mount) ---> used my 'T2 to Nikon Adapter' (because it's the one at hand, although I should really use an 'M42 to Nikon Adapter').

Komura 200mm f/4.5 (Minolta SR Mount) ---> I already converted to Nikon mount

One of my #PhotographyGoals is to get an astronomical telescope and atomic-level microscope (Olympus)... but each of them cost at least a hefty P 20,000. Hayz... I guess I need to give it up for now. For now.
