June 10, 2016: Flower Photography In Cubao with My Konica and Makinon Lenses

June 10, 2016.

Just to test some of my new lenses, the Konica Hexanon 50mm f/1.7 (K/AR), Makinon 80-200mm f/4.5 Macro (M42) and Makinon 28mm f/2.8 (C/Y) -- I dropped by a secret place I found in Cubao some time ago.

Flowers are one of my favorite subject and testing my lenses would never be complete without them. Anyway, there are too many photos for me to post here, you can just check out the Flickr albums/links provided below. All images are raw/uncorrected/unedited.

========================================

Konica Hexanon 50mm f/1.7 (K/AR)

This is a wonderfully sharp lens even wide open at f/1.7. Unfortunately, due to flange distance, K/AR lenses can never be used on any DSLR's because they will never focus to infinity. This lens would make a big hit for mirrorless cameras.

This was my favorite product photography lens especially for closeups. I retired this lens when I found my Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 Micro to carry on the job.

Makinon 80-200mm f/4.5 Macro (M42)

This is a cheap lens that will be a poor man's introduction to telephoto zoom lenses. The build is actually smooth, I like it very much. Unfortunately, a glass element in the middle was cloudy and could never be cleaned/repaired.

I'm surprised that image quality was still acceptable, that's what matters. Images have a warm amber bias, but I'm particularly blown away by the macro magnification of 1:3 at 200mm.

Makinon 28mm f/2.8 (C/Y)

Oh my, this is a very beautiful prime lens! One that came in Contax-Yashica mount -- so the only way I could use it on my Nikon D5200 was #freelensing #lenswhacking. Two months later, I'm finally able to convert it to a Nikon mount.

What I like about this lens is that it has a bit of softness (just a bit dreamy, but not too much) but the contrast is good and colors are especially psychedelic punchy. Will tell you more about this lens in another post.

My post ends here. Hope you enjoyed seeing the flower shots. If you're wondering where I shot them, this was at the flower garden beside Telus Araneta and Farmer's Market. When you see the flower shops, the garden is just behind them. Enjoy!
