December 29, 2016: Purchase Decision for the Sigma 18-200mm + Daytime Long Exposure in Quiapo

December 29, 2016: New Lens, Sigma 18-200mm!
December 29, 2016: New Lens, Sigma 18-200mm!

My Sigma 18-50mm is a lens specifically made for crop sensor cameras, that's why the advantage is that it has a wide angle of 18mm. However, I'm not able to use it often because 50mm is too short a working distance for macro/closeups.

So now, the question of getting a Nikkor, Sigma, or Tamron is irrelevant. It was more like 18-105? 18-135? Or 18-200? and Minimum Focusing Distance?

So what happened to my favorite for product shots, the Nikkor AF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D Macro? It's a really fine lens, especially since the macro goes down to 0.22 meters from 50mm to 105mm. However, I wrote in my feature before that it's a lens made for FX, so I won't get wide angle shots with 28mm on my D5200. (18mm vs 28mm difference matters alot on DX!)

December 29, 2016

10.00AM, Farmer's Plaza Cubao.
Today, I had a meetup with this nice seller. Please believe me, I secretly like him in a sexual way. He also showed me a Nikkor 18-105mm and a Nikkor 18-200mm VR besides the Sigma 18-200mm OS that I inquired before. In the end, I chose the Sigma.

The focus ring is a pleasure to use for manual users because of its wide comfortable grip, smooth turning, and it's located at the front of the lens. The focus and zoom rings turn the opposite direction from the Nikkor way. I find it easier to use in that direction. (While you're holding the camera in front of your face, your left hand on the zoom/focus ring, from 18mm, you turn the ring counter-clockwise to get to 200mm.)

Thanks to the OS (Optical Stabilization), even 200mm f/6.3 is still useful for indoor and moderately low light scenes. I didn't care about the AF and didn't bother to check. But if you care to know, it's super smooth and super silent compared to the Nikkors, I liked it.

Sigma made 4 versions of this lens. Look for the one with 72mm filter thread, with OS and HSM (version 3). I'm not a pixel-peeper type and the image quality is just acceptably fine for me. What matters is that I get what I need in one singular lens: wide angle, telephoto, macro/close focusing, OS for indoor/low light scenes, and a user-friendly design.

12.48PM
Later, I commuted from Cubao to Quiapo. I'm shocked it was a fast travel today, no traffic. Sana ganyan everyday!

It was noon time when I arrived and began shooting. Boy, I could hardly find any shade as the sun was just above me, and the shadiest place I could hide in was still damn sunny hot.

The long exposure footage in the Quezon Bridge was set to 30 seconds, f/22, ISO 100, with intervals of 5 seconds between shots, and still too bright with the ND1000. Unfortunately, I had to wrap things up immediately and didn't stay long as I was already getting a severe headache from sunbathing.

My goal for this visit was to film a video for my new filter, the Cacagoo Pro ND1000. I think I already got what I want in this scene. Let's call it a day and do another daytime motion time lapse next time.

The world is full of laughter when using an ND1000 filter.
Watch the video below to find out why...
