The Alfo Supercolor MC 135mm f/2.8 in Pentax K mount is a telephoto portrait prime lens. From what I have found out, Alfo was an in-house lens brand for a photography shop in Germany. It does not say where it was made. But after some research, it points to a Samyang and was Made in Korea (Google for an Albinar ADG version, they look like exact copies of each other).

In the old days, it was common practice for shops to re-badge lenses under their own name -- Vivitar, Soligor, Hanimex, Spiratone, Optomax, Sears, and many others did that. Those lenses, if you would research further, were made by familiar names -- Samyang, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Sun Optics, Komura, Kiron Precision, Komine, Kobori, Olympus, Cosina, Makinon, etc.

The lens was in minty condition when I bought it. The only problem was the oily aperture blades, the oil which hardened like mud. After cleaning it, it works fine now. My next problem was how to convert it to a Nikon mount for use on my D5200. I need to saw off a part of the aperture ring to accommodate the Nikon mount replacement and for the flange distance to be correct (Nikon flange distance = 46.50mm).

For my samples, all I did was to freelensing the Alfo on my D5200, so I won't be able to show you shots of subjects farther than 2 meters. What blows me away was that wide at f/2.8, the lens is razor sharp, has great contrast and resolution, and I don't see any color fringing on high contrast edges. I also like that the colors are neutral (no bluish or amber cast). The Alfo is so sharp that even when freelensing, I can see each individual hair strand from a cat from 2 meters away.

I have two 135's as of now -- this, and the Tamron Adaptall 1 135mm f/2.8 (CT-135). The Tamron is much softer at f/2.8 and shows low contrast when shooting outdoor where there's plenty of light (whereas the Alfo does so much better). The Tamron show a light greenish color cast when shooting indoor but  shows strong bluish color cast when shooting outdoor. I guess the Alfo has a more effective multicoating. For reference, the Tamron was made around 1976-1979, the Alfo was about 1980 which was also about the same period.

On my D5200, 135mm effectively becomes 210mm. It feels a bit tight even for outdoor shots. I find that my comfortable distance from the subject is 2 to 3 meters. At this range, this lens is good for a head and shoulder shot.

I have nothing to complain about the image quality. Minor complaints are cosmetic: 1) It's pretty common, but they are all only available in Pentax K mount, and 2) the focus ring and aperture ring turn opposite directions.

Adapters are very cheap, so you can easily adapt Pentax K mount lenses to Canon EOS, Minolta/Sony A mount DSLR's, mirrorless and micro 4/3 cameras (Sony, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic, Canon M, Nikon 1, etc.)

One produces realistic life-like results, the Alfo. The other has a dreamy impressionistic painting quality, the Tamron. Alfo vs. the Tamron... I think most people would go for the Alfo. But I choose to keep the Tamron because of its dreamy quality at f/2.8. We all have artistic decisions to make!

Especially nice for shooting portraiture.
Great for indoor and outdoor shooting.

Edited for low contrast, high key washed out look.
Half of the face was overexposed by the sun, this was my only way of saving the shot.
