Fungus Cleanup for the SMC Pentax-M 75-150mm f/4

June 29, 2017

I have 4 lenses arrived recently, and they were just some out of the 15 items I'm expecting this June (supposedly), but some were super delayed for 2 months and may arrive by July.

The SMC Pentax lenses (and also Takumars) were well known for their great contrast and vivid colors thanks to the Super Multi Coating. This lens holds alot of promise especially for portraiture.

The first sample shot I took looks muddy and dark. There's quite alot of fungus covering the entire rear and front glass elements. After the cleanup, the images brightened up and brought the famous SMC colors.

Here's a simple breakdown of the lens...

The elements are now clean. But under the front glass, there seems to be a bubble around the periphery that indicates a balsam separation coming soon...

Sample shot before cleaning. The others after this were shot after cleaning.
